Time for precision....

Now getting round to more structure on my diet and for the next week I will aim for 1800 - 2000 calories a day with a goal of 10% carbs, 30% protein and 70% fat (no more than 30g carb), while I also intend to do a daily treadmill 50 minute session and to test my blood keytone level first thing tomorrow, Wednesday, morning, and Saturday morning.

Will continue for a further week and then get my cholesterol tested.

‎Doing some study this morning and disappointed with book The Ketogenic Diet by Jennifer Williams. All recipes higher in protein than fat and little explanation of where the 70% fat in diet comes from. Or indeed of whether it is 70% in weight or as a % of calories. I assume its calories.

An hour of cricket nets followed by 90 minutes walking and jogging  this evening while my son had touch rugby training. Felt good. ‎

New normal continues - Excellent McArdle's clinic visit

Have not really had time for a treadmill session but played cricket on Saturday, again with no hint of M hanging over me. Skill sadly still lacking. Energy aplenty up early and in need of things to do - walks, tidying dad's garden shed etc. High fat low carb diet‎ fine so far.

Thursday 14th August

On train back to Bristol after yesterday's highly‎ enjoyable and beneficial visit to the McArdle clinic in London. Green light to continue my Ketogenic experiment, some very helpful pointers and advice. Great to have the opportunity to meet a team of professionals with insight into the condition and to discuss what I have experienced these few weeks since my fast. I will be doing anything and everything I can to help progress further research in the hope that others can experience the complete "rebirth" that I have. I truly feel like a new man and it feels great. After a few glasses of wine and a Bounty bar last night, the former with friends, the latter a sneaky treat, I felt a little more M symptoms as I walked to the underground this morning. Eggs Florentine at the Groucho Club with an old friend got me back on track and I then paced through the streets of London to Paddington without a sign of M.

Life is good!

Am looking forward to getting back to Singapore for a few treadmill sessions as feel there are now plenty more PBs to aim for.....this afternoon did an hour of fitness training with my eldest daughted and son. Of course did not keep up but had lots of fun trying! even did a plank for 10-15 seconds....

Will of course keep you posted!

Not easy to remain in ketosis................worth the effort though

Monday felt more of a struggle walking. After a few days of little sleep, and not full dietary awareness yet, I felt like things were slipping away a little. Tested urine this morning and sure enough ketosis not evident. Yoghurt and cheese for breakfast and a water fast for the remainder of the day will hopefully get me back in that zone for a weekend of cricket.

While I have not been able to exercise much and broadly sticking to ketogenic but need to be back home to be more systematic about this. Nevertheless cricket on Sunday was fine (my batting no better sadly) with M not restricting me at all. Am hoping to score a few runs next weekend, when normally I would simply be contemplating a very stiff and sore body. Have found a good book on Keto and it's use in treating epilepsy. Intend to email authors re M once I have read it!!

Still hoping to get to M clinic though it may mean missing Bristol City's 1st home game of the season so if it has to wait for another time so be it.........

Monday and Tuesday in London. Still feeling full of energy and having no issue resisting carbs - upside of not having them is so substantial. Friends noticing a change and I am needing less sleep, substantially less, and feeling tremendous.

First murmurings of M resurfacing today as needed to stop once while walking up Piccadilly. Seems a 24 -36 hour fast is essential and may have a few glasses of vino with friends tonight and then implement!

Lovely evening with great friends and a keto friendly meal (I think) but supplemented by red wine. After yesterday's experience I really do not want to allow M to take over my life again. Hence have commenced a water fast and will continue until I am firmly in a high keytone state. Will supplement with a little natural yoghurt. Delighted to say I have an appointment for M clinic in London next week so am looking forward to discussing Ketogenic with Dr Quinlivan.
